Training for actors serious about their craft __________________________________________________________________________

Purpose

Buffalo, New York has had a wonderful and dynamic theatre legacy for over a hundred years. In the days of vaudeville, Buffalo was one of the most sought after stops for performers and audiences alike. Today an astounding sixteen professional theatre companies under the auspices of the Buffalo Theatre Alliance, produce an amazing variety of live theatre. Amateur and emerging companies, along with local university theatre programs add to the abundance of theatrical experiences Western New York’s citizens and visitors have access to year round.

Constantly in a state of evolution and re-creation, the local acting scene has progressed from the broad melodramatic style of the late nineteenth century, to one of the highest caliber in the contemporary realistic genre. In the same spirit that has kept Buffalo’s theatre community vital and on the cutting edge, I am pleased to introduce the G r e g N a t a l e A c t i n g S t u d i o: a sanctuary for aspiring as well as professional actors to begin or continue their training; for those who are serious about the craft of acting.

At the studio the focus will be on intense training for anyone with a serious interest in acting, whether new to the art form, or an established professional. The foundation method of the studio will be the Meisner Technique, one of, if not the most sought after acting methods in Los Angeles and New York City, as well as many graduate-school acting programs. Acting classes in the Meisner Technique will be offered on one of two levels: Young Adult (Ages 16-19) and Adult. Prior experience in acting or Meisner Technique is not required to study this method because it is based on an incremental series of exercises that work solely as a result of mastering the step before.

For the professional actor as well as college theatre students and graduates looking to widen the breadth and knowledge of their craft, Meisner Technique would be an invaluable tool to have in their arsenal of skills. However, if a method class is not what they are looking for, the G r e g N a t a l e A c t i n g S t u d i o will still be a venue where experienced actors can come together to train and grow. Through scene and monologue study they will be able to keep their skills sharp as they explore new facets of their craft in an environment that is challenging, professional and encouraging.
